Assassin's Creed Mirage, the next instalment in Ubisoft's historical series, will be fully revealed this weekend at the publisher's Ubisoft Forward showcase. But, as is usually the case with anything and everything Ubisoft these days, details about the game are already leaking well ahead of schedule.
This latest information comes from the PlayStation Store, as relayed by Tom Henderson. The yet-to-be-published product page confirms that Mirage will be a cross-gen title, meaning that it's set to release on both PS5 and PS4. There was a bit of speculation that the game might drop last-gen consoles, but given Ubisoft's track record of releasing its tentpole titles on as many platforms as possible, we don't think this is hugely surprising news.
Oh, and the page says that if you grab the game on PS4, you're eligible for a free PS5 upgrade — which is always nice.
Three main bullet points are also present on the page:
- Experience a modern take on the iconic features and gameplay that have defined a franchise for 15 years.
- Parkour seamlessly through the city and stealthily take down targets with more visceral assassinations than ever before.
- Explore an incredibly dense and vibrant city whose inhabitants react to your every move, and uncover the secrets of four unique districts as you venture through the Golden Age of Baghdad.
And yes, Basim is the main character.
Again, it's all pretty much expected, but it does reinforce the notion that Mirage will be a more 'traditional' Assassin's Creed experience. Although we can't see Ubisoft ditching every RPG mechanic and live service element that it's worked into the most recent games, it certainly sounds like there'll be a bigger emphasis on...well, being an assassin.
Are you looking forward to seeing Assassin's Creed Mirage in action? For now, keep your hidden blade hidden in the comments section below.

Must admit it being cross-gen is very disappointing. The new consoles will be a couple of years old at least when the game comes out and I was hoping by that time we'd see games being developed exclusively for this gen. I know the last 2 gens share technology but the graphical and technical differences between PS4 games that have been upgraded for PS5 and PS5 only games are obvious to see when compared.
Mirage originally started out as a DLC for Valhalla, which is a cross-gen game. It also coming to PS5 and PS4 is of no surprise.
@LiamCroft is that so? That explains that then. In that case I hope the next one is platform locked to this gen
@riceNpea it’s due out in 6 months according to rumours. And started as a Valhalla dlc.
I’m very excited about this. Looks like AC game I’ve been asking. Finally focus on assassins and not on we made a 20% bigger map than last time.
I still kind of can't believe we are actually getting this! While I did enjoy Valhalla quite a bit I'm so excited to see a return to a true classic AC experience. It's already one of if not my most anticipated games of next year.
Now if we could just get a return of the multiplayer from Brotherhood to Black Flag I'll lose my mind!
@Jeaz I hope you're right and you enjoy it.
After playing Odysee and Valhalla I'm thoroughly bored by the inherent repetiveness built in to AC games, especially Valhalla which although on the surface gave the impression of being more expansive than Odysee, was far less engaging and interesting, with needless busy work.
I would like for AC to learn from how Elden Ring approaches world building and is more intelligent with how it populates the world with places and enemies to organically discover as we traverse the landscape, instead of signposting everything and being entirely predictable with it's identikit structure to placement and copy and paste challenges
Given the games available on PS4, I could see them closing out last gen with an AC1 remaster being part of a Gold Edition or Season Pass for this (where the remaster also comes to Switch) then the next game is PC/PS5/Series X|S only and being the only AC game for around a decade (that's what live service usually means).
I'm praying to God this is good Assassin's Creed is very dear to me so I really hope we can go back to formula AND get actual good games as well more Ezio trilogy's less Syndicates
If they confirm the Assassin's Creed 1 remake coming with the season pass, I will buckle up my wallet and get the deluxe version!!
What? We're dropping gendered characters and going back to an arabic country? Here I was hoping the Japan rumour would hold true. I'm out.
Urrgh...let the PS4 die already!
@AFCC Seriously it's starting to feel like people are being punished for actually owning a current gen system 😅
@Keyblade-Dan yap, and with this we are already wasting two years doing "half updates" for next gen, with 60fps and nothing else...
Here's hoping it's not as boring as the first few AC. The setting doesn't really interests me, but I'll play it.
I'm excited, and gonna get it as I've played every ac. Don't understand the haters. Rpgs are the best genre and ac going rpg was my dream come true! Origins, odyssey and Valhalla are now my favs. With black flag anf unity behind them. Mythology I'm a huge sucker for as well lol. Plus I'll argue with the haters all day they are ac games whether you wanna say they are or not. They still follow the story and lore. Hidden ones are the prequel assassins and the group from odyssey are the prequel templars. Just cuz gameplay is different doesn't mean it's not ac. That's like saying yakuza like a dragon isn't yakuza cuz it went turn based when its always been action based. I hate turn based but it's still yakuza just like these are still ac XD
I’m rather excited. I enjoy the RPG ones for what they are, even if they’re one hell of an undertaking. This one does sound like a nice throwback though, and it’ll be cool to see how they modernise older gameplay elements. Fingers crossed the parkour is as good as Unity’s.
Bad news on the PS4. I wanted some Unity level ambition, not a restrained cross gen release. I will cautiously watch.
@SerJosh97 Imagine if Yakuza became a fighter that included the second cousin twice removed of Yakuza which never even met a Yakuza and they called it a Yakuza based that including no characters from the games.
7 kept the rest of the character and themes of the series, it kept the style. It was easily recognizable as Yakuza even if it was a debatable decision.
Odyssey added nothing to the story of AC and was obviously contrived as a connection. What part of AC outside of a loose story thread (that’s frankly irrelevant) did Odyssey capture to adhere to? What exactly stopped it from being a separate thing entirety and no one would have noticed or cared?
@Icey664 They are supposedly announcing a bunch of AC games, one set in Japan is suppose to be one.
I am really excited for this. I like the RPG and old school AC games, and can appreciate both styles. Valhalla had too much content though. I sunk well over a hundred hours and still never completely finished all the DLC and side quests. I had fun, but I prefer to beat games and move on. This new one seems like it will be a solid mix of old school and new school elements, but with an appropriate length.
i can't wait! I understand why they will release the game for PS4, especially as it started as an DLC for Valhalla. But I hope this and the AC1 remake are the last two that are being released for the platform.
It's time to move on after those. While Assassin's Creed Infinity is taking the live service approach, it's going to need to keep pushing forward without the PS4 holding it back. It wouldn't shock me if they released a PS4 version for a cash grab and then very quick to be left behind while PS5 moves on with future expansions, etc. Better to just let the PS4 version go and focus on PS5
I imagine AC Infinity will have a hub in the modern world with an Animus and then you’ll hop in there to visit different story lines in various places throughout history. Each season they can keep adding more destinations.
UBI will be milking last gen money for a long as possible
